“The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man’s”
At some point in your life, you would have encountered your friends, relatives or neighbours roaming their dogs and cats.
Some might be pleased with the exotic variety of sea life they own within their aquariums. While others might be just as happy with some goldfishes or turtles in theirs. But have you considered owning a dog? The lively, honest, playful yet alert creature. I’m pleased to say I have bought myself a Golden retriever. It’s called Maxi. Dogs are believed to be the most loyal living being to a man. They are “Man’s best friends “. Here’s why:-
1) Dogs improve your mood dramatically:
Whenever I feel a bit low Maxi’s roams about wagging his tail and presses me to go out and play some frisbee with him. Dogs are very playful creatures. They create such an aura around them that makes us attracted to them. Who wouldn’t love seeing someone who loves you the most? Imagine coming home after a long day’s work or hectic school and your excited dog playfully wags its tail, woofs and runs around you in joy. How mesmerising such a welcome would be. Isn’t it?
2) Love and forgiveness:
There is a saying that “A dog will love you more than it loves itself”. And that’s why it is known in the world for its loyalty. It doesn’t hold any grudges against what you would have said years ago.
3)Improved Social life:
Research has shown that about 40% of dog owners create social connections easily than non-dog owners. They get along well with other dog owners who they meet in their walks. Dogs are easy conversation starters and people owning dogs get trusted more than others. Whenever I take my puppy for a stroll, I see curious kids, parents and passer-by admire it and some even play with it(it’s so cute !). Also, many communities can be found online where you can meet people having the same dog breed as yours and make new friends.
4)Some dogs are cancer detectors:
Yes, you read it right; dogs can detect cancer! Dogs have the special ability to smell cancer in the human body and can save their life. A lot of owners have confirmed that places, where their dogs licked or sniffed, were later found out to be cancer spots. Some dogs are trained to detect cancer.
5)They teach us responsibility:
Taking care of a dog requires a lot of effort that is worth the results. It’s just like a baby that needs proper clean-up, regular health check-ups, nutritious food, cleaning potty etc. It will teach you and your children the care needed for life to flourish. Disciplined will be incorporated into your lifestyle. No more procrastination or your doggo won’t be happy. Ever since Maxi has become a part of my life, I have learnt a lot of lessons about caring for a young one.
6)They are a reflection of your personality:
Dogs are a mirror to our personalities. They know a lot more about you than you think. Whether you are treating it with respect and responsibility or with aggressiveness and ill-mannerism, your dog will reveal it before observers. That’s why I treat Maxi with utmost care and love.
Studies have shown that kids having dogs as their pets are more immune to pet allergies even until later life. It’s simple, dogs have plenty of germs on them that otherwise don’t come in human contact unless you are a dog owner. Giving our body exposure to such microbes pushes our immune system to develop protection against them, So, chances of you getting an illness is reduced significantly,
8)Better heart health:
Maxi is super energetic and keeps me too. You might be a lazy person but your dog surely won’t let that happen for long. Dog owners have to regularly take their pets for a morning or evening stroll or maybe both. It keeps both of you active, healthy and your cardiovascular system in positive condition. Moreover, it gives you an excuse to get up from your couch and get going. When compared to non-dog owners, dog owners are likely to have lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
9)Dogs are effective security systems:
You can be stress relieved and relaxed when you are away from home as your canine will pose a threat to any burglars. Dogs have as much sense of belonging to your home as you. Say goodbye to home invaders.
10) Less depression and more happiness:
You won’t be feeling depressed or lonely when you have your lively canine friend ready to keep you active and happy. The human brain produces the feel-good chemical Oxytocin and lactation help hormone Prolactin while being with your pet. Taking care of your pet, following a routine and being given love by your pet leaves little scope for depression to attack you. You will always have your dog friend to cuddle with, have food with, and spent golden moments of your life with it. Maxi’s arrival has surely been one of the best things that ever happened to me.
Someone has rightly said –
“The best therapist has fur and four legs”
In this blog, I’ve talked about not just the importance but the very benefits of owning a dog. I have experienced these things myself being the owner of Maxi, my Golden retriever. He’s very loyal and friendly. My lifestyle has changed from passive to active by taking care of my dog. I take him for regular strolls, meet other dog owners and play with him. He’s a brilliant mood-lifter. Apart from this, I take good care of him by giving healthy foods and keeping him clean.
Dogs certainly keep us healthy and safe in return to our service. They love their owners the most and expect a similar response from the other side. I have felt more occupied and content with Maxi all around I expect myself to keep this bond strong for years to come.
