When I wake up and read these unfortunate posts and News over Sexual violence I write this article with a sobbing heart and furious hands. This lead me to interviewed people to gather knowledge as to what they think about this sensitive subject. Some respond “short dresses” , some respond “Bollywood”. Finally I concluded the general public is absolutely clueless as to what is happening.
Let us understand. Why people involve in Sexual violence ?
1. Aggression
War followed by sexual assault on losing side has been a common phenomenon. The lose of follow comrades was wrongly contemplated with sexual assaults. This is prevalent even today. Failure in love for self or peer, to disgrace a community.
2. Mental Health
Degraded mental health is a prime cause of such activities. Every month or so I loose faith in humanity when I hear a Dog or a Goat got raped. Now no one teaches them this. It is because of their weakened psychology.
3. Social Factors
Sex is over rated in a country like India. Where in a developed country people talk fearlessly over sex, we are hesitant to buy a contraceptive. Even in a developing country like Mozambique, rape is minimal because sex is considered sacred, unbound of culture, and in bold letters DESENSITIZED. FYI in 2010 per 1 lakh people India was reported at 9.8 whereas Mozambique at 0.2.
4. Pornography
It is disputed but we will consider this for India. Yes pornography has reduced the desire for wrongful deeds which is proven scientifically. But pornography have corrupted Indian minds drastically. In India if a male individual interacts with a foreign lady they try to be more physical because they are brain fed that foreigners are sex addicts. The slightest touch will seduce them. Your Daily newspapers will read such cases every month.
5.Cultural
Perhaps India suffers worst here. Girls are discouraged wearing short dresses, boys are encouraged thinking that a girl wearing short dress is short of character. We are home growing these rapists at our own home. India’s sexual assaults are worst hit by this. It is ironically funny. A girl wearing a t-shirt and jeans contemplates a wrong notion but if she wears a saree which is already revealing at abdomen it is considered the most respected attire here.
What you think , what is the cause of these crimes and What one can do to stop it
Our society suffers heavily from a one sided and oppressive thinking. I have observed educated boys raising finger on the character of a woman who works night shift. Learning to read and write only is not education, its a holistic method where one’s entire thinking process should be enriched.
Your researched posts says it all about the causes of sexual abuse. I feel it is all about the mindset.
Agree the proper upbringing play important role in individual personality. I think cause lies deeply rooted in our society that cannot be removed easily
One of the biggest reason is also lack of knowledge and the stigma around the topic. We should start teaching about sex education in schools from an early age.
This is a compelling post. A lot depends on how one is brought up and what he sees around.
You wrote this post very beautifully. You mentioned right here In India some factors related to sex are overrated. Imagine! Buying a contraceptive publically is also judged by the people.
I feel that our society needs to be more open in providing the right sexual education, right at home. Aggression and such behaviours also need to be addressed
I am glad you brought up these points dear. Only if each one of us contemplated this and acted omypon it we will make our society better
A right topic your up with nice points awareness is always important…
I am so glad you have written this post. Educating people about the causes of sexual violence is perhaps the only way to eradicate it. Fantastic post.
Sexual violence it’s more about power than anything else. Which is why the winning would rape and plunder. Till the time women are considered as property, this would continue. The way meet perceive women needs to change. And will have start from our own homes.
It’s important that we raise the right individual and you have the right stated points that it involved mental depression too!!
I agree with all your points especially the 5th. We need to be involved in the upbringing of our children to allow them to understand that women are not objects of their imagination. Let’s hope the figures in India get down to 0 soon.
very well said put. Its everything put together. But yes, it starts with curiosity and then not talking about sex or feeling the shame while buying contraceptives. And those who talk about it are thought to be loose character.
