I recently attended an informative blogger meet on 29th September 2018, organized by Dupont and Ebix and my weekend was so insightful, grabbed all knowledge about protein. I love to share what I have grabbed from there and share with you as sharing is caring I want my Friends to stay active, fit and healthy.

What Protein Does?

Protein builds, maintains, and replaces the tissues in your body. your body uses protein to make hemoglobin. Other proteins are used to build cardiac muscle.  In fact, whether you’re running or just hanging out, protein is doing important work like moving your legs, carrying oxygen to your body, and protecting you from the disease.

Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Scores (PDCAAS)

PDCAAS method, is a measure of a protein’s ability to provide adequate levels of essential amino acids for human needs. PDCAAS is calculated using an amino acid profile and true digestibility of a food protein. Dupont Danisco isolated protein(ISP) has a PDCAAS score of 1.00.

The protein consists of amino acids, and amino acids are the building blocks of protein. There are around 20 amino acids.
The nutritional value of a protein is measured by the number of essential amino acids. Different foods contain different amounts of amino acids. That’s why it is important to eat the right amount and the right kind of protein to get its health benefits. Generally:

Animal products such as meat, eggs, and milk are naturally high in protein, which is an essential nutrient made up of amino acids.

Some plant products, such as soya beans and quinoa, are also complete proteins while others are incomplete proteins. However, plant proteins usually lack at least one amino acid.

Even at my home face battle on animal and plant proteins goes. My 8-year daughter hate eating Non-veg even I am vegetarian but my hubby forces him to have non-veg so that she get high protein. But this battle will end now, As with help of  Mr. Indranil Chatterjee, Mrs. Karuna Jaikrishna & Mr. Sujith Sathyadas from DuPont Nutrition & Health and Dr. Namita Nadar from Fortis Hospital through light on Soy Protein goodness and myth we have in mind regarding protein. Soy protein is equivalent to animal protein. This information gave me a sigh of relief.
My daughter will be happy now with a promise of having soy protein daily. Yes, children ages 4 to 13 need about 45 grams of protein for every pound of body weight on daily and adults should consume 50 grams of protein a day.

A person following a vegan or vegetarian diet should eat a varied diet of plant-based foods to get the required range of amino acids. This includes high-protein foods, such as tofu, tempeh, lentils, nuts, seeds, and quinoa.

Protein-rich diet gives the feeling of fullness, or satiety more than high carbohydrate diets. When it comes to losing weight, protein is the king of nutrients. It helps to preserve lean body mass particularly important if you’re cutting calories to lose weight, raising metabolism, and increasing satiety. Dieters are gobbling down protein bars in hopes of quick weight loss like me.

2. Muscle Growth and Repair

If you see Bodybuilders are snatching, grabbing, and gulping down protein shakes do not be surprised because It is advisable to  Eat protein within an hour after exercise to fuel muscle growth. After workout body allows for maximum absorption of amino acids. protein help in muscles mass

3. Active Lifestyle

It’s not that young mind and heart need protein but also aged people need protein diet too. In your 30s, you start to lose muscle mass and function. The cause is age-related sarcopenia or sarcopenia with aging.
People who maintain a sedentary lifestyle following diagnosis of sarcopenia may have greater and faster muscle mass loss. If measures aren’t taken can be left bedridden.
Best way to Treatments for Sarcopenia is to do exercise and have a protein-rich diet.

Soy protein is a good alternative for Lactose intolerance or allergic to dairy children. At least they get full protein from the soy protein which they use to get from dairy products.

  1. This is such an informative post about proteins. Yes the debate over veg and non veg diet for proteins makes round in our home too. Good to know various veg options too.


  2. A Protein rich diet would be really good, but Carb – Craving is a real thing because we Indians never have a meal without roti or rice 🙁
    I have tried cutting down carbs, it has not worked for me – but this post has made me aware that I should try it again because of all the benefits!

  6. I recall the baby weight wasn’t increasing and it was then that the Dr said that I go on a protein rich diet, being a vegetarian the best source was soy and since then it is louve

  7. Being a vegetarian I rely on protein supplements and finding the right one is very difficult. Going by your review I Feel this is just the right choice for me too. Would definitely give it a try.

  8. So, I have been told by my gyneac that young girls shouldn’t have high amounts of soy protein as it may lead to early puberty. I am a vegetarian too and I totally understand that plants are not a great source of protein. I cook soybeans or soy granules once in a while.   9. For vegetarains getting the required protein from food can be challenging. Soy protein is a great nutritional source and can be experimented with too.
